New Jersey enacted legislation (P.L. 2025, c. 195) requiring every public school district to adopt a “bell-to-bell” policy that prohibits students’ non-academic use of personal internet-enabled devices—such as smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets during the school day.

Ms. Leone was nominated by her colleague, Dr. Mahon, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to environmental education and her dedication to connecting students with nature through meaningful learning experiences. This honor reflects Ms. Leone’s passion for teaching, her commitment to enriching student experiences, and the high-quality educational opportunities she provides to our students at Elmwood Park Memorial High School. It is always encouraging to see our staff members recognized beyond the district level for their contributions and impact. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. It is a proud moment for both Ms. Leone and the Elmwood Park school community.
